Well i'm here to tell you that honing the pin bores for an aftermarket application build is very vital. Did you happen to explain to the individual you were speaking to what abuse the engine will see and the type of power and so forth you will make? No matter what engine you build or have built...the pin bores on the pistons/rods need to be honed. From F1 to Top Fuel every detail is examined and improved upon. Every engine I worked on and machined parts for while working at my previous employer has honed piston pin bores. The engines run so much smoother and better this way. It is your choice in what you want to do with your builds...but mine get the utmost attention to everything. Cheap insurance for a longevity purpose.
